SAMSON valves for process utilities supply project at Innovafeed

|   Project

The project at a glance

SAMSON has proven its worth in a steam supply project for Innovafeed. This biotechnology company specializes in the breeding and processing of insects for animal and plant nutrition.

Based in Northern France and based on the philosophy of "feeding tomorrow’s world" in a more ecological and sustainable way, Innovafeed has built one of the largest insect production farms in operation in Nesle (Somme). 15,000 tons of insect proteins - from the breeding of the black soldier fly (BSF) - will eventually be produced on this site each year. These products are mainly intended for aquaculture.

The application

Located on an industrial site consisting of three companies, Innovafeed relies on the biomass power plant (Kogeban - PEARL Infrastructure Capital) to supply itself with steam and hot water (60% of its energy needs). SAMSON's 16 valves are used for these auxiliary media for the “greentech” company's plant. SAMSON was awarded the contract in 2020 because of its short delivery times and its wide range of valves and solutions for these challenging applications. Among others, there are:

  • Type 3310 rotary valves manufactured in France and used for both "bypass" regulation on hot water and on-off function on softened water;
  • Type 3241 linear valve which allows to evacuate the surplus of pressure of the line;
  • Type 3244 three-way valve in stainless steel which is used to control the temperature on a hydrocondenser;
  • butterfly valves from the German factory SAMSON LEUSCH. The LTR43-2 “wafer” valve (photo above), used as a shut-off valve, operates, for example, with medium pressure (23 bar gauge) and high temperature (300 °C) steam.

Extra info

Half of the 16 valves supplied by SAMSON are used for control functions. These 8 valves are equipped with a TROVIS 3730-1 digital positioner with two options: position transmitter and two inductive limit contacts in the same housing. The benefit of this technology? A more compact, more economical and safer installation.
